With five players scoring in double figures and putting on a strong defensive performance, Reyer Venezia shut down Olimpia Milano 77 – 69 at home. Both teams are now tied at 3-1 in the Italian Serie A League.
Jayson Granger led the charge for Venezia with 18 points while former Milano big man Jeff Brooks had 13 points plus 10 rebounds. Marco Spissu also dropped 13 points, Allerik Freeman finished with 11 points and Mitchell Watt scored 10.
Brandon Davies (13 points), Billy Baron (11 points) and Stefano Tonut (10 points) stood out from Milano that was missing Shavon Shields, Gigi Datome and Naz Mitrou-long. Ettore Messina’s side was coming off three straight wins in EuroLeague and Italy.
Milano was up 11-18 late in the first period but Velenzia responded to close halftime up 37 – 36. The hosts proceeded to further establish a lead beyond shooting distance n the third period and took a 12-point advantage, 73 – 61, with five minutes remaining. Milano just trimmed that deficit to single digits near the end of the match.
After a rough EuroLeague week with back-to-back losses to Zalgiris Kaunas and Partizan Belgrade, Virtus Bologna snapped at Treviso to retain its unbeaten record.
