A big surprise in Italy. After a big win in Euroleague for Virtus Bologna, against Panathinaikos, Sergio Scariolos’s squad collapsed in the fourth quarter to lose against Brindisi 78-77 in round 16.

Virtus was up by 24 points late in the third quarter and had a comfortable 67-47 lead going into the finale 10 minutes. But then an epic collapse.

Bologna side scored only 10 points in the fourth quarter while allowing Brindisi to score 31 points and steal the game from under the noses of Virtus.

I find it strange to comment on a defeat after 30′ of excellent basketball and which vice versa led us in the last 10′ to forget all the defensive and offensive principles, the team plays and the intensity on which we had built the 20-point lead becoming soft and selfish“, said Sergio Scariolo after the game.

Nick Perkins scored 18 points for Brindisi, Ky Bowman added 15. Semi Ojeleye led the way for Virtus with 20 points, and Mouhammadou Jaiteh inked a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Round 16 in Italy was definitely reserved for surprises. Reggiana played the best game of the season exploiting another subpar game by Olimpia Milano. Ettore Messina’s squad cant cach a break. After a tough loss against Asvel, they now played badly in the domestic competition falling short 73-86.

Jeremy Senglin and Osvaldas Oliseviciusscored 14 points for the home side, while another good game by Brandon Davies (22 points) was not enough.
