The American-Panamanian center from AEK Athens, Akil Mitchell, is in talks with Virtus Segafredo Bologna, as first reported by Corriere di Bologna.
The Italian team wants to add the 30-year-old player immediately and keep him for the next season, but AEK wants him to stay for the Greek playoffs, as Eurohoops confirms. The decision is expected soon.
Virtus finished its comeback season in the EuroLeague outside the Top 8 and is looking to improve before the Legabasket playoffs and build for the next season with Mitchell in the crosshairs.
The American-Panamanian had a great season with AEK so far, averaging 14,5 points and 8,5 rebounds per game in Basketball Champions League, as well as 12,9 points and 8,4 boards in the Greek championship. He was also part of the All-Champions League Defensive Team of the Year.
It’s no wonder AEK wants to keep him for the playoffs that start on 23/04 against Peristeri.
Mitchell started his professional career in the G League but soon traveled overseas to play for Olympique Antibes in France.
He also played for Boulazac Basket Dordogne, Pallacanestro Trieste, Hapoel Gilboa Galil, Maccabi Rishon LeZion, Pınar Karşıyaka and Brose Bamberg in Europe, as well as New Zealand Breakers in NBL.
