Game 4 of the 2023 LBA Finals wrote history, ending after two overtimes and seeing Virtus Bologna coming out on top 93-89, tying the series at 2-2.
Milano came back with a 13-0 run in the fourth quarter, especially thanks to Shavon Shields, who ended the game with 26 points and 9 rebounds, in one of his best performances of the season.
However, the 29-year-old small forward left the court earlier than expected, with 1:43 left in the second overtime by committing his 5th foul right after a call by the refereeing trio on Shields travelling on the offensive end.
Talking about this specific matter, Olimpia Milano‘s General Manager Christos Stavropoulos released a short statement to La Gazzetta dello Sport. “We are shocked by the referee meter and by two suspicious calls against Shields, first the travelling violation and then the 5th foul”, he said.
The former Olympiacos manager went on to speak about the former Baskonia player. “Our best player was on the field for 44 minutes and was only able to shoot 2 free throws”, he said. “We want to be respected”, Christos Stavropoulos finally added.
