Virtus Bologna climbed to the top spot of the Italian League standings by getting an 87 – 73 away win over Germani Brescia in the game that concluded Round 24 of the regular season. Luca Banchi’s team improved to 17-7, getting the tiebreaker as well vs. Brescia.
Marco Belinelli led all game scorers with 17 points while Achille Polonara added 14 points for Virtus. Awudu Abass had 13 points plus five rebounds and Gabriel Lundberg pitched in 12, including a tough buzzer-beater from afar that put his team up 61 – 74 at the end of the third period.
John Petrucelli notched 14 points plus six rebounds and Jason Burnell scored 13 for Brescia, now second in the standings at 17 – 7 as well.
