Jasmin Repesa is one of the most decorated coaches in European basketball modern history, having won tons of titles both in his Croatian homeland and in several other countries.
At 63, he decided to embrace a new challenge by coaching the newly promoted LBA side of Trapani Shark, based in Sicily, the Southern of regions in Italy. Talking to Corriere dello Sport prior to the team’s training camp, the experienced head coach spoke about the club’s ambitions.
When asked about making it one day to the EuroLeague, he admitted the team’s goals. “Are you provoking me with this question? Obviously European basketball in his highest expression is a goal. Just like breaking the duopoly of Milan and Virtus Bologna. We’re ready to try doing it”, he said.
“We will work to get as high as possible, as every piece needs to be placed perfectly. We need to consolidate ourselves, win as much as possible, and try to always look further than our reached goal”, Jasmin Repesa followed. “In the meantime, we will host Partizan, Derthona, and Ryukyu Golden Kings in a high-level friendly tournament from September 7-8”, he remembered.
Thanks to the investments of the club’s owner Valerio Antonini, Trapani Shark brought on board Langston Galloway, Tibor Pleiss, Justin Robinson, John Petrucelli, and Akwasi Yeboah, as well as confirming huge players like JD Notae and Chris Horton.
Milan was Jasmin Repesa’s latest team in the EuroLeague, coaching the Italian side from 2015 to 2017. He recently had other experiences in the country with Pesaro and Fortitudo Bologna, which he also coached from 2002 to 2006, also managing to reach a EuroLeague Final.
