Virtus and Maccabi get mid-week wins before facing each other

On a rescheduled game for Round 4 of the Italian Serie A, Virtus Bologna prevailed over Derthona Tortona 85-81 and remained on top of the league standing with a perfect 6-0 record, tied with Dolomiti Energia Trentino.

It was a close contest, with Tortona trailing by two (83-81) in the closing minutes, but the guest couldn’t get any closer. Matt Morgan with 16 points was the top scorer of the winning side, while Ante Zizic and Marco Belinelli added 14 points each.

Arturs Strautins scored 17 points for Tortona which dropped to a 4-2 record and a tie in the fourth spot with Milan, Trapani, and Brescia. The third spot belongs to Trieste, the only team with a 5-1 record.

In Israel on Tuesday (5/11), Maccabi Tel Aviv also got a win for their domestic league in Israel, beating Hapoel Galil Elion 73-60 and improving to a league-best 5-0 record.

Maccabi had 10/23 threes and 18 points by Levi Randolph. Newcomer David DeJulius who is expected to make his EuroLeague debut in the upcoming game between Maccabi and Virtus in Bologna.
