In a quest to stay in Italy’s LBA UnipolSai, Napoli stunned championship contender Virtus Segafredo Bologna, 93-88, in the Fruit Village Arena on Sunday.

A brief scuffle with Tomas Woldetensae and especially a heated reaction led Tornike Shengelia to an ejection with 5:56 left in the fourth quarter of the Round 22 contest. The 26-year-old Italian guard of the team based in Naples escaped the tension with a flagrant foul.

Tomislav Zubcic, packing a new personal best for his 2024-25 journey with Napoli, and Jacob Pullen shared a game-high 25 points, pushing their side to 6-16 in the Regular Season and into a tie with two more teams from the 13th spot on the table to the relegation zone. For the visitors, Marco Belinelli and Mouhamet Diouf finished with 13 points apiece, after Shengelia stopped at 12.

The team coached by Dusko Ivanovic was forced down to 16-6 and into a four-way tie on the top of the standings. Playing on Saturday, EA7 Emporio Armani Milan jumped to 15-7, forcing Germani Brescia to 16-6 and eventually into a tie with Trapani Shark. Entering the first-place pack, Dolomiti Energia Trento went up to 16-6 with an 87-64 victory versus Estra Pistoia in Il T Quotidiano Arena earlier Sunday.
