Virtus Costa Bologna pulled off a late escape in Round 2 of Italy’s Serie A SisalClub Regular Season on Sunday, roaring back from the brink of defeat to secure a close 98–89 win over Maxima Roma.
Coach Alex Mumbru’s squad went ahead by 11 points early on, only to lose their grip and fall into an 11-point hole late in the game. Then, the momentum shifted completely, with the hosts launching a 28–8 finishing run.
Marcus Carr took over down the stretch, delivering a sequence of clutch baskets to finish with 21 points. His 13 assists also shaped a double-double. Trent Frazier added 16 points, and Bobi Klintman chipped in 15 to help seal the turnaround. It was a gritty team effort, especially with Derrick Alston Jr., Rasheed Bello, and Kevin Kokila all sidelined.
Elsewhere, BC Roma, initially known as Roma SQPR, finally found their footing. After dropping their first two games of the 2026–27 continental and domestic campaigns following an offseason relocation to the capital, the club backed by Luka Doncic dominated Bertram Derthona Tortona 108–70. Playing their first home game in front of 2,842 fans, they leaned on Nico Mannion and Erik Stevenson, who shared a game-high 19 points.
Meanwhile, Openjobmetis Varese also secured a victory, riding a 25-point performance from Hunter Hale to beat Longobardi Scafati 85–77.
Massinburg buzzer-beater sinks Milano
After a rocky 1–2 start to the EuroLeague season, Olimpia Milano suffered its first domestic defeat in Round 2, falling 75–72 to Verona on the road. CJ Massinburg decided the game with a buzzer-beating three-pointer.
Verona led for much of the contest and built a double-digit advantage before Milano fought back. The hosts were still five points ahead with 14 seconds remaining, but Garrison Mathews tied the game with a three-pointer with three seconds left. Massinburg then struck from beyond the arc to secure the victory.
RJ Melendez led Verona with 14 points, while Mike Tobey recorded 13 points and 14 rebounds, and Massinburg added 12 points. Marko Guduric paced Milano with 14 points, three rebounds and three assists. Mathews scored 11 points, while McKinley Wright added 10.
