With the score 70 – 70 and two minutes left, Melvin Ejim (12 points, 7 rebounds) and Ariel Filoy (10 points) dropped consecutive 3-pointers giving Venezia the needed edge approaching the final moments of the clash vs Avellino.
Marquez Haynes (11 points) then hit the key basket for a 4-point advantage with only seconds left, as Venezia ultimately won 78 – 75 to solidify its hold at the second place of the standings with a 17 – 8 record.
Mike Bramos paced the winners overall with a double-double of 16 points/10 rebounds.
Avellino is currently third and at two-game distance, sitting at a 15 – 8 record tied with Trento. The latter took what was arguably the greatest win of the Week in Italy by dominating defending champs Milano on the road.
The “Red Shoes” probably only got their prestige hurt since they are safe and sound at the first place with 20 – 5 record. And quite the distance from second Venezia.
