Varese delivered one of the upsets of the season in the Italian League by defeating powerhouse Olimpia Milano 74 – 69 at home.
Cameron Wells scored a game-high 21 points for the winning squad, including a couple of critical triples in the fourth period, grabbed 7 rebounds and dished out 5 assists. Aleksa Avramovic added 18 points.
For the Mindaugas Kuzminskas-less Olimpia Milano, Vladimir Micov had 18 points and 8 rebounds while Drew Goudelock scored 11.
Goudelock (1/8) and most of his teammates struggled with their long-range shooting. Theodore (6 points) was 0/4 and Dairis Bertans (3 points) had merely 1/6. This was a major issue for Milano that couldn’t translate open looks to baskets, finishing with 9/35 from beyond the arc.
