With one game remaining in the Italian League regular season competition, the awards for the 2017-2018 season have been revealed.
Sidigas Avellino had a tremendous regular season, as did Jason Rich. The American was voted the Most Valuable Player of the year in the Italian League, awarded by a jury of specialized journalists, coaches, general managers and the captains of each team. Rich, totaled 192 votes, while Christian Burns of Red October Cantù was the runner-up with 67. Back in 2o15-2016, James Nunnally had won the MVP trophy for Avellino.
Jason Rich played 29 games this season and averaged 19.4 points (53.3% 2FG) (39.8% 3FG), thus being the top scorer of the association.
Attilio Caja of Pallacanestro Varese was voted coach of the year with 175 votes, in front of Andre Diana of Germani Brescia who was the runner-up with 117. Brescia has a 20-9 record, good enough for third place.
Also, for the third straight year, Diego Flaccadori of Aquilla Basket Trento was voted the best player under the age of 22. He received 164 votes, while Leonardo Candi of Reggio Emilia was second with 65.
Finally, Federico Casarin of Reyer Venezia won the best general manager award.
The award ceremony of the winners is scheduled for tomorrow, during an event organized by LBA and ‘Gazzetta Dello Sport’ in Milan. The event will be broadcasted live on Gazzeta.it and the Lega Basketball Facebook page.
