A Club Assembly decided on excluding Torino basketball club from LegaBasket due to an inappropriate change of corporate structure.

Torino was recently acquired by a group led by Dmitry Gerasimenko who was the owner of Cantu until February 2019 when the team was sold. According to the press release, a person can’t buy stakes of another Serie A club without consideration of the debts he caused with his former team and in the same season.

The announcement by LegaBasket is as follows:

The Serie A Basketball League Assembly approved the exclusion from the LBA of the Auxilium Pallacanestro Torino club. The decision was taken for conduct incompatible with the permanence in the League in light of the entry into the new corporate structure that owns the Turin club of Dimitry Gerasimenko, already owner of the Basketball Cantù until February 2019. In taking their decision the clubs have assessed the relevance, for the purposes of the association, of the fact that a subject cannot take over the social structure of a club without taking into account the situation of indebtedness caused by the same, in the same sports season, against another member.
The resolution will be sent to the FIP for the related measures regarding the participation of the club in the Serie A championship.
