Ioannis Bourousis announced via social media on Thursday his decision to retire from the Greek national team. He represented his country in various competitions the last 15 years after debuting with the senior team in the 2005 EuroBasket and capturing gold as well.
Since competed in 174 games averaging 9.5 points per appearance. Apart first place in 2005 at Serbia, won bronze in the 2009 EuroBasket. Previously helped the U20 squad go all the way in the 2002 European championship.
During his lengthy tenure with Greece at the international level deservedly earned captaincy honors. His successor’s first challenge will be under the guidance of Rick Pitino in this summer’s Olympic Qualifiers.
