Los Angeles Lakers big man Kostas Antetokounmpo got some extra minutes by Greece coach Rick Pitino in the prep game against Puerto Rico and he provided numbers plus highlights.
Antetokounmpo had a team-high 14 points in a 77 – 69 win of his squad over the Puerto Rican side in day 2 of the Akropolis Tournament. He shot 5-5 from the field and 4-6 from the free-throw line while getting four rebounds and four blocks in 20:46 minutes.
“He’s a young man with a lot of potential. A lot of upside,” Pitino said after the game. Dinos Mitoglou added 12 points and five boards for Greece while Isaiah Pineiro (17 points, six rebounds) and Gary Browne (14 points) stood out from Puerto Rico.
In the other Akropolis game held Saturday, Serbia dominated Mexico 104 – 67 behind 23 points (8-9 shots) by Filip Petrusev. Omar de Haro scored 11 for Mexico.
There were some other international friendly matches that took place around Europe ahead of the Olympic Qualifiers.
Italy – Czech Republic 83 – 71
Achille Polonara and Stefano Tonut scored 16 points apiece while Nico Mannion dropped 14 points to lead Italy past the Czech national team. Lubos Kovar had eight points for the losing squad.
Germany – Tunisia 102 – 75
Joshiko Salibou was everywhere with 22 points, 11 assists and five rebounds in Germany’s 102 – 75 rout over Tunisia. Robin Benzig contributed 17 points to the victory while Tunisia needed a lot more than Oussama Marnaoui’s epic game of 31 points.
Russia – Turkey 77 – 64
Russia won what was mostly a defense-dominant battle vs. Turkey behind the performances by Andrey Vorontsevich (14 points, five rebounds, four assists), Vladimir Ivlev (11 points, five rebounds) and Semen Antonov (11 points).
Cedi Osman led Turkey with 15 points. Omer Yurtseven had 10 points.
