Vassilis Spanoulis’ long-awaited return to the Greek NT after six years has been pushed back, as a calf injury is expected to keep him away from joining the selection at the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Canada later in June.
Spanoulis did not participate at the “Acropolis Tournament” in Athens last weekend as a precaution due to calf stiffness, which eventually evolved into a strain. His condition will be once again evaluated later today, though the chances of him joining Rick Pitino’s squad are slim.
The Greek NT captain is added to a long list of absences after the injuries of Ioannis Papapetrou and Giorgos Printezis, while the team also lacks Giannis and Thanasis Antetokounmpo who are currently competing at the NBA playoffs.
UPDATE: The Greek Basketball Federation confirmed later on Tuesday that Spanoulis is out for the Olympic Qualifying Tournament
