Svetislav Pesic recently appointed Serbia senior national team head coach, will be admitted to the Clinical Centre of Serbia with an acute sore throat, the Basketball Federation of Serbia announced Monday.
“The health condition of national team selector Pesic is stable, but he has an acute sore throat requiring hospital treatment as soon as possible,” noted Prof. Dr. Dragan Radovanovic.
The health issue forced the cancellation of the two-day training camp for selected Serbian players competing in the AdmiralBet ABA League. It was initially scheduled to begin today in Belgrade.
Matija Belic, Dusan Beslac, Ilija Djokovic, Nikola Djurisic, Stefan Djordjevic, Dalibor Ilic, Nikoloa Jovic, Arijan Lakic, Vojin Medarevic, Mihailo Musikic, Zoran Paunovic, Marko Pavicevic, Djordje Pazin, Marko Pecarski, Mihailo Petrovic, Aleksa Radanov, and Borisa Simanic were the players receiving an invitation for the since canceled camp.
“On behalf of the national team and the entire Basketball Federation of Serbia, I would like to thank all the players accepting the invitation amid their tight playing schedules,” said national team director and retired player, Dragan Tarlac, “Also, I would like to express my gratitude to the teams of the players, from the management to the coaching staff of each team, for helping the players to become available for the national team.”
Pesic, 72, was named head coach of the Serbian senior national team in late September. The experienced play-caller will lead his country in the 2023 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers commencing late November. Serbia will face Latvia, Belgium, and Slovakia in Europe’s Group A.
