Miami Heat center Omer Yurtseven didn’t travel to Bormio, Italy to join the Turkish national team training camp and did so without receiving any permission from the Federation or informing them, as Eurohoops can confirm.
Unlike the cases of Serbia’s Aleksej Pokusevski and Nikola Jovic who didn’t receive permission for summer activities from the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Heat respectively, Yurtseven’s decision to not show up at the training camp was a personal choice.
Yurtseven doesn’t plan to participate in either the 2023 World Cup Qualifiers or the 2022 EuroBasket since he wants to shift his focus on the upcoming season with the Heat. The 24-year-old big man is currently in Miami where he where he attended the Jr Heat camp yesterday. He posted some photos of the event on his social media profiles.
This isn’t the first time that Yurtseven skips activities of the Turkish national team without notice. He was previously suspended for eight games in 2018 for this reason.
Basketfaul first reported the news of Yurtseven skipping the national team training camp.
