Elisa Aguilar was reelected as president of the Spanish Basketball Federation, and one of the first pieces of news she shared after taking office was the renewal of Sergio Scariolo, head coach of the men’s national team, and Miguel Méndez, head coach of the women’s team.
“We will have a moment later to officially introduce them and establish the objectives of the new Olympic cycle, but it is already a reality that Sergio and Miguel will continue with us until the year 2028,” Aguilar said.
Sergio Scariolo is leading the men’s national team for the second time. He took over in 2009 and after a two-year hiatus, he did so again in 2015.
He has already accumulated 196 games at the helm of Spain, winning eight medals: five golds (Eurobasket 2009, 2011, 2015, and 2022, and World Cup 2019), one silver (Olympic Games 2012), and two bronzes (Olympic Games 2016 and Eurobasket 2017).
