Finding a good connection with Luka Doncic in Dallas, Daniel Gafford might play alongside him with Slovenia as well

As his role within the Dallas Mavericks got bigger and bigger, and therefore his chemistry with Luka Doncic got smoother, Daniel Gafford was rumored to be in contact with the Slovenian basketball federation to get a passport, playing for the national team.

However, according to Marc Stein, he won’t be naturalized for this summer’s duties regarding the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament, as Slovenia will play in Greece to seek a spot in the Paris Olympic Games.

Talks will still occur though, as Daniel Gafford remains an option for the Slovenian national team in the future. For this summer, however, Josh Nebo is set to fill the team’s center position, as reported earlier by Walla Sport and BasketNews.

In his first season with the Dallas Mavericks, the 25-year-old center made an instant impact, averaging 11.0 points and 7.6 rebounds per game to help his team get to the NBA Finals.

He made it to the league in 2019 by getting drafted by the Chicago Bulls with the No.38 pick after two seasons in the NCAA with the Arkansas Razorbacks. From 2021 to 2024 he played with the Washington Wizards, also alongside future opponent Kristaps Porzingis.
