After not being able to bring his country back to the Olympic stage, Kazys Maksvytis stepped down from the head coaching position of the Lithuanian national team.
Lithuania lost to Puerto Rico in San Juan in the final of the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament 2024, not managing to come back to the 12-pool at the Olympic Games.
In charge of the Lithuanian national team’s bench since 2021, the 47-year-old tactical expert coached his country at FIBA EuroBasket 2022, where Lithuania finished 15th, and at the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023, where they lost to Latvia to conclude their run in 6th position.
The Lithuanian head coach left Zalgiris Kaunas midway through the 2023-24 season, being replaced by Andrea Trinchieri. At the moment, his future is still unclear.
