In the final of the Tbilisi preparation tournament ahead of the Eurobasket 2017 qualifiers, Russia prevailed over Georgia 100 – 97 in overtime.
The game was filled with top notch performances by players of both teams. Vitaly Fridzon (19 points, 4 rebounds), Andrey Zubkov (17 points, 8 rebounds) and Dmitry Khostov (16 points, 9 assists) were the ones to shine the most from the Russian side.
Coach Ilias Zouros was happy to see team Georgia presenting a highly competitive picture vs a really powerful opponent. Tornike Shengelia stood out with a strong double-double (26 points, 10 rebounds), while Viktor Sanikidze also scored and controlled the boards efficiently (13 points, 13 rebounds). Mike Dixon added 16 points and 5 rebs.
Meanwhile, in the friendly tournament that takes place in Kluj, Bulgaria defeated their Romanian hosts 83 – 76.
Naturalized American player Dee Bost was superb with 29 points plus 10 rebounds. Sasa Vezenkov also provided for his team with 17 points and 7 rebounds.
Vlad Moldoveanu was Romania’s top scorer, dropping 15 points and grabbing 9 rebounds.
