Longtime FYROM captain Pero Antic will not play in the upcoming Eurobasket 2017 qualifiers after being retired from the national team.
However the new head coach, Dragan Raca, requested the suspension of Antic, who is currently a player of Fenerbahce, because he denied his call. In theory the federation can punish Antic, but it remains to be seen if this will happen and how a possible punishment can be valid in the Turkish league and the Euroleague.
So far, no player has been excluded from club games because of his denial to play in the national team with the exception of Daniel Hackett. However, Hackett was playing at the time in Italy and not in an other country, like in the case of Antic who plays in Turkey.
