Technical Director of the French Basketball Federation, Patrick Beesley, explains why they excluded Alpha Kaba from the selection of the NT.

The French Federation announced Monday that the player was excluded from the NT list of 40 players likely to be called by Vincent Collet for qualifying at the World Cup 2019. “The Federation took note of the choice of the player to prefer his involvement with the national selection of Guinea,” the statement reads.

“I do not confirm this choice at all. I saw the representatives of the French Federation a few weeks ago. They wanted to know about my availability. I told them about my indecision, asked for time and I told them that I prefer that they remove me from the list. In no case did I express my commitment to Guinea. Apparently, they made the decision for me”, Kaba states per L’Equipe.

Beesley, however, tells otherwise: “Vincent Collet wanted to include Kaba to his list of 24 for the November games. The player asked to be withdrawn because he had not made his choice between Guinea and France. We gave him a few days, but we can not wait indefinitely. He never answered calls and messages. And then, the Federation of Guinea sent an official letter requesting the player to be made available. That’s why we excluded him from the NT.”
