Miami Heat guard Goran Dragic feels quite hyped up and extra invigorated ahead of the 2018-2019 season. The reason? Not having to play any national team games with Slovenia this summer and the beneficial effects this may have on him on the long run.

Per the Associated Press

“I feel amazing. I feel great,” Dragic said. “I think one of the smartest moves I made was retiring from the national team because I feel energized and pumped for this season. I always kind of hit a wall toward the end of a season, but I feel like this season is going to be a totally different story.”

A year ago, Goran Dragic led the Slovenian national team to the first-time achievement of winning the EuroBasket. The Heat player averaged 22.6 points, 5.1 assists and 4.6 rebounds over 27.9 minutes per game and was subsequently named MVP of the tournament and part of the All-EuroBasket team.

Dragic had already made up his mind about retiring from the national team even before the EuroBasket. Following the end of the tournament and his national team’s success, he confirmed that he won’t play for Slovenia anymore.

Earlier this year, Dragic was selected to play in the NBA All-Star game for the first time in his career, replacing injured Cleveland Cavaliers forward Kevin Love.
