Italian Basketball Federation president Gianni Petrucci said that national team captain and Fenerbahce forward Gigi Datome shall be the one who will succeed him in the post.
In an interview with Corriere Della Sera, Petrucci mentioned that: “When he [Datome] decides to introduce himself as such, my chair will become his. I’d really like to see who wouldn’t vote [for him]. He has charisma, he’s intelligent.. and he has already assigned assignments to everyone. Datome for president!”
Datome, a former EuroLeague champion with Fenerbahce is currently the president of the EuroLeague Players Association. The 31-year-old forward has been playing with the senior Italian national team since 2007.
Petrucci, who is also the president of the Italian Olympic Committee, talked about the 2019 World Cup. “We will be motivated and charged. With all the NBA players. The problem is that the other teams will also have them.”
