Spain succeeded in getting past Argentina for their second FIBA World Cup gold medal. In fact, it’s their second in total World Cup medal as the first one, in 2006, was also gold.
In the 21st century, Spain has been on the rise and has been by far the most successful European national team. They’ve won 13 medals in total since 2001 at the Olympics Games (silver – ’08, ’12; bronze – ’16), FIBA World Cups, and EuroBaskets (gold – ’09, ’11, ’15; silver – ’03, ’07; bronze – ’01, ’13, ’17).
