At 37 years old, Vassilis Spanoulis is still going strong for Olympiacos in Turkish Airlines EuroLeague.
The Greek and European legend recently became the all-time EuroLeague PIR leader and he also put on a strong performance against Panathinaikos.
That also impressed the opposing coach Rick Pitino who had high praise and respect for Spanoulis but he now went a step further and expressed his wish to see the veteran point guard on the Greek national team he recently took over:
“Just for the record I would love to see Spanoulis join our National team”, he wrote on Twitter.
Spanoulis played for the national team in the past winning gold at 2005 EuroBasket, silver the next year at the FIBA World Cup in Japan as well as a bronze at the 2009 EuroBasket in Poland.
However, he retired from the national squad after the 2015 EuroBasket in France and it’s questionable if Pitino’s wish will be fulfilled as Spanoulis approaches the end of his career.
