Lauri Markkanen will be sidelined for four to six weeks, the Chicago Bulls announced on Friday. The Finnish forward/center complained for soreness and underwent an MRI of his right hip that revealed an early stress reaction of his right pelvis.
“It is disappointing,” he confessed, “Sucks to be out. They explained to me what could happen and I think it is smart. It feels the same. It’s been a couple of days now and it’s felt like normal soreness. I don’t know if it would be smart to play. It could always get worse. I think this is the smart thing to do.”
Following a period of rest, he will resume basketball-related activities targeting to be back according to the timetable set. However can’t specify the exact moment the injury occurred.
“I can’t think of (anything) specific that happened,” he said, “Just a couple of games now. It just felt like normal soreness. It hasn’t really gotten worse, but it’s been there for a couple games, so we just decided before we go on the road, get an MRI.”
Markkanen was averaging 15 points and 6.5 rebounds per 2019-20 Regular Season appearance.
