The NBA suspended the 2019-20 season indefinitely on Wednesday evening after Rudy Gobert was found positive for coronavirus. Some scheduled regular-season games were actually played, but the match between Gobert’s Utah Jazz and the Oklahoma City Thunder was postponed.
Coronavirus concerns put the rest of the Jazz players and those of the Thunder into quarantine. The immediate impact included the postponement of the Sacramento Kings versus New Orleans Pelicans tilt as one of the referees scheduled to work that contest refereed Jazz’s game on Monday.
Additionally, the five teams that collided with the Jazz and Gobert during the past ten days were told self-quarantine, according to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst. Those teams are the Cleveland Cavaliers, New York Knicks, Boston Celtics, Detroit Pistons and Toronto Raptors. It’s unclear how long these quarantines might last.
The NBA is taking precautions to prevent the coronavirus spread. Following the first step of indefinitely suspending the season, more announcements are expected within the coming days to clear up the situation.
