The NBA plans to hand out players’ full salaries due on April 1, but left open the possibility of recouping future salaries for suspended games on April 15, as reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
The force majeure provision in the collective bargaining agreement allows for the withholding of 1/92.6 of a player’s yearly salary for each canceled game based upon catastrophic circumstances. The provision concerns several scenarios including war, natural disasters, and epidemics/pandemics.
According to the report, teams and players will be informed before April 15 (the payment date) about the league’s decisions. Most NBA players will have received around 90% of their seasonal salary after the April 1 payments, per ESPN’s Bobby Marks.
