Orlando Magic swingman Evan Fournier doesn’t have many high hopes that the 2019-2020 NBA season will restart.
“I don’t know about you but I believe less and less that there will be a resumption of the season,” Fournier tweeted. The NBA was suspended on March 11 when Utah Jazz center – and Fournier’s French national team teammate – Rudy Gobert became the first player to test positive for coronavirus.
Fournier last played a game on March 5, in a Magic loss to the Miami Heat. He was averaging 18.8 points, 3.2 assists, and 2.6 rebounds before the league shut down.
NBA commissioner Adam Silver was reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski to discuss a return to action once public health officials give the “go,” during a teleconference meeting between major league heads and USA president Donald Trump. The latter was reported to expect late summer or early autumn is the time when play will resume.
“Here we have barely begun containment,” Fournier also tweeted. “Recovery in July? It’s in 4 months. We would need at least one for recovery and physical preparation otherwise the injuries would be a massacre. And in addition, we’ll go to playoffs directly?”
