Washington Wizards will be working as an over-the-cap team this summer, even though the team could potentially scratch out around $15 million if the cap exceeded its initial $115 million target for the 2020-21 season according to The Athletic. That being said, changes in the salary cap could immediately impact the future of Davis Bertans’ free agency this off-season.
Wizards are looking to re-sign 27-year-old Bertans, who will likely command a multi-year deal and according to the report, for him to retain his bird right, which will allow the team to go over the cap to sign him, they need to keep his cap hold on the books. This will add another $13.3 million to the team’s cap sheet.
