Davis Bertans talked to NBC Sports Washington about not being able to stay in shape in terms of shooting during the coronavirus pandemic. Many players including the Washington Wizards forward don’t have basketball hoops at home.
“Shooting is more about confidence than repetition at this point,” the three-point specialist noted, “Maybe when I was 20, I needed a lot of reps. Now that I’m 27, it’s more mental than physical, I guess.”
The pandemic and team facilities closed do not prevent Bertans from working out. The single remaining connection with basketball is NBA 2K.
“Every day is like a groundhog day. It’s just the same thing all over again every day,” he mentioned commenting on his daily routine that features a wake-up call at 7 a.m., workouts, family time, virtual NBA action, and TV.
Up to the suspension of the 2019-20 NBA season, Bertans averaged 15.4 points per contest shooting over 42% from long range. The Wizards were 24-40, 5.5 wins outside of the playoffs.
On an additional note, the Latvian sharpshooter is set to become a free agent this summer upon the conclusion of the two-year contract he signed with the San Antonio Spurs in 2018.
