According to guidelines set by the NBA regarding reopening team facilities on Friday, the Denver Nuggets, Portland Trail Blazers, and Cleveland Cavaliers are the only sides immediately set to allow players to resume individual workouts under restrictions.
The NBA previously announced that the teams can begin opening their facilities on May 8. However, most organizations are not ready to meet the earliest date possible. Even the teams reopening their facilities do not expect full attendance.
The Milwaukee Bucks, Philadelphia 76ers, New Orleans Pelicans, Miami Heat, and Atlanta Hawks will potentially follow next week. The rest of the sides are expected to keep their facilities closed even longer.
Only assistant coaches will be allowed to participate or observe player workouts, not head coaches, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.com. Teams can designate up to six coaching staff members. No more than four players at a time will be permitted to use open facilities.
In addition, commissioner Adam Silver and NBPA executive director Michele Roberts will host an all-player call on Friday hoping to address concerns, according to ESPN.
The 2019-20 season remains suspended since March 11, in response to the coronavirus pandemic. While some teams planning to reopen their facilities looks like a sign towards the season resuming, but most organizations extending the practice ban due to health concerns prove that ideal conditions remain distant.
