The plan to resume the 2019-20 NBA season features the league issuing formal guidelines for teams to recall players around June 1, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Zach Lowe.
Players returning to their teams will be among the key first steps for the season to get back on track before the end of July. The NBA is aiming to recall players that left their respective markets including those traveling abroad during the ongoing hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The NBA seems to hope to complete the initial process in approximately two weeks. The next one or two weeks will feature individual workouts at team facilities followed by two to three weeks of a formal training camp. Regarding players already in their markets, teams aim for an even shorter recovery timeline.
With players fully training and as ready as possible to resume the 2019-20 season, teams will then travel to a designated location for the first action since March 11 and eventually conclude the season.
Apart from the players practicing, the NBA and NBPA still have to establish a competition format and also decide whether to gather teams in one location or split them in two. It remains to be seen if all 30 teams will be brought back, if additional regular season matches will be held, and what the playoffs will look like.
