Entry bans imposed because of the coronavirus pandemic will be lifted for foreign athletes returning to the USA, acting Secretary of Homeland Security Chad Wolf said on Friday. The exemption will extend to the staff members and the players’ families.

“In today’s environment, Americans need their sports. It’s time to reopen the economy and it’s time we get our professional athletes back to work,” he mentioned through a statement issued by the department announcing he had signed an order for the exemption.

The NBA is expected to start recalling players to their respective markets around June 1. The step-by-step plan towards resuming the 2019-20 season starts with all players getting back to practice and ultimately being ready for a restart before the end of July.

Apart from the players, the NBA is considering Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Florida as the venue for the remaining games, practices, and housing as well.

The adjusted competition format to complete the season is among the rest of the decisions to be taken for action to resume provided health risks for everyone involved are minimized.
