Top NBA teams reportedly proposing ways to retain some kind of playoffs advantage

The contending NBA teams ranked higher in the standings will not gain the traditional home-court advantage with action resuming at a single location. However, officials are considering various options to secure other benefits for the top-seeded sides, according to Dave McMenamin of ESPN.

Possibilities include the higher-seeded team to gain the first possession for the second, third, and fourth quarters in each playoffs game. Other options are one designated player allowed one additional foul before fouling out or an extra coach challenge.

Apart from a ruling directly involving any game in question, teams have discussed awarding the higher-seeded team by transporting their hardwood home court to Orlando or for them holding the first option on hotel accommodations.

Any decision would need approval from the NBPA and the two-thirds of the owners voting in favor. However, the top priority for everyone involved is actually restarting the season over the benefits depending on rankings

The NBA is expected to approve the proposed plan to resume the 2019-20 season with the Board of Governors set to vote on Thursday, 18:30 CET.

The season was suspended on March 11, in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
