Dennis Schroder to leave Orlando bubble for birth of second child

Oklahoma City Thunder guard Dennis Schroder said he’s definitely going to leave the NBA bubble in Orlando in order to be with his wife during the birth of the couple’s second child. The Shroder family is expecting the birth in three to four weeks.

“I’m not going to leave my wife by herself while she’s [having] the second baby. Junior is still 17 months old. I’m for sure going to go there and support her and try as much as I can to be there for my family,” Schroder said per ESPN’s Royce Young.

While Schroder’s priority is clear, he hopes that the Thunder will understand how much he wants to be with his wife at the moment she will bear the couple’s second child.

“For me it’s tough. I love my teammates. I love basketball, but the family comes first all the time. I’ll try to make something happen with the organization. I sacrifice a lot for my team, but we still have to get on the same page that I can see my family when the baby is coming. We’re going to make it work.”

According to the NBA protocol, players who leave the bubble will then have to be quarantined for no less than 10 days and must produce two negative coronavirus tests before joining their team.
