Milwaukee Bucks forward Ersan Ilyasova is far more interested in how his team will perform in the long run and come playoffs, rather than the current shape of the squad.
Following, months of quarantine, Ilyasova and the Bucks are working towards reaching peak form when the postseason heat begins. Their goal, after all, is winning the championship.
“We are practicing and we are playing a bit. There are a lot of individual workouts. The way we look at it, it’s a journey, not a sprint,” Ilyasova said. “All the preseason games and the season games are going to be important but our main goal is still to be ready for the playoffs.”
“We are in a good spot. Before the whole thing with the virus when the season was postponed we were in a good place,” Ilyasova added when asked about being the top-placed team before the season was suspended. Now we want to secure our lead in the Eastern Conference. We will see where we are as a team and our physical condition. We’re going to play hard but at the same time, we have to look at the bigger picture: Winning the championship.”
Sacramento Kings guard Bogdan Bogdanovic has said that the NBA restart reminds him of a FIBA tournament. Ilyasova says that while there is a particular similarity, the differences are far more.
“Yes and no. All teams staying in the same place like a European Championship or a World Cup. But this is mostly different. There are test things, you wear a mask, there are rules and stuff,” Ilyasova said. “The main comparison is that you stay in the same hotel, you see each other more often,” Ilyasova said.
