The New Orleans Pelicans were eliminated from the 2020 NBA playoffs keeping JJ Redick out of postseason action for the first time in his career. His 13-year run was the longest active and ended on Sunday.
The Duke alum, 14 years into his pro career, refused to go out quietly. He put up a game-high 31 points in losing effort against the San Antonio Spurs connecting eight times beyond the arc. Over six games in the Orlando bubble since the restart of the 2019-20 season, he banked 18.7 points per contest.
“For whatever reason, I don’t have an answer, but I don’t think we started the game with a great competitive spirit,” he said commenting on the loss to the Spurs. His team was officially taken out of playoffs contention a few hours later with the Portland Trail Blazers defeating the Philadelphia 76ers.
A dive into Redick’s streak brings up the Orlando Magic, Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Clippers and the 76ers. All of his previous teams made it to the postseason between 2007 and 2019 paving the way for his 110 playoffs appearances.
Next in line is Kyle Korver. The Bucks sniper last missed the playoffs in 2007 and is gearing up for his 13th straight postseason campaign.
