The Portland Trail Blazers announced halfway through the fourth quarter of Game 2 that Damian Lillard would not return to the game due to a left index finger dislocation. His X-rays came back negative later in the day and Lillard himself says he doesn’t plan to miss Game 3.
“It’s just sore. A little bit tender to the touch. A little bit swollen and uncomfortable”, he told reporters at the post-game press conference.
When he was then asked if he was going to be able to go on Saturday, Lillard made himself available with a simple response. “Oh, I’m playing”.
“[The staff] had to put it back for me, and at that point, I thought it was broken,” Lillard said of his injury. “I was just frustrated because I had to go back and get it looked at. I was just frustrated. It was just bad timing. I handle the ball a lot, so just knowing there’s going to be some discomfort, I don’t know how that’s going to feel or how that’s going to go. It’s frustrating. That’s all it was.”
