Adam Silver: NBA likely to push back 2020-21 season tip-off

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said the league might delay the start of the 2020-21 season (planned for December 1) to a later date, in an interview with ESPN.

“I’d say December 1, now that we’re working through this season, is feeling a little bit early to me. Our No. 1 goal is to get fans back into our arenas,” Silver mentioned. “My sense in working with the Players Association, if we could push back even a little longer it would increase the chances of having fans in arenas, that’s what we’d be targeting.”

The NBA playoffs are currently underway with the last date for a possible Game 7 of the NBA Finals being October 13 and the NBA Draft scheduled for October 16. The free agency was also set to begin on October 18, though as ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported earlier Thursday that was also likely to be pushed back since “front-office executives are privately concerned about the lack of salary-cap and luxury-tax projections in place before the Oct. 16 draft.”
