Former NBA champion and five-time All-Star point guard Chauncey Billups is interested in pursuing an NBA head-coaching job, according to Yahoo Sports.
Teams have now begun the process of researching Billups’ candidacy and there are coaching vacancies in Philadelphia, New Orleans, Indiana and Chicago.
Billups played 17 seasons in the league and was viewed by most of his teammates as a player-coach. In 2012, general managers selected Billups as the active player who would one day make the best head coach
There’s a modern history of retired guards getting the head coaching jobs without stints as an assistant with Steve Kerr, Jason Kidd and Steve Nash being recent examples.
