With his contract expired, Mike D’Antoni has informed the Houston Rockets that he is leaving the team, as Adrian Wojnarowski has reported.
There has been a lot of speculation about his future and the Rockets wanted to keep him, however, there are already rumors about D’Antoni moving to the Pelicans and having the chance to coach a young team which includes Zion Williamson.
According to Woj, D’Antoni is also a candidate for the head coaching job in Philadelphia and he “turned down extension offers prior to the season” made to his by the Rockets.
D’Antoni, a two-time NBA coach of the year, led the Rockets to the highest winning percentage in the Western Conference over the past four years (.682), trailing only the Toronto Raptors (.695) in the entire league.
Meanwhile, Jeff Van Gundy is already rumored to be a strong candidate for Houston’s bench.
