Pau Gasol and his wife welcomed their first child in the world, a daughter that will have the name Elisabet Gianna. She’s named after Kobe Bryant’s daughter Gianna Bryant who perished along with her father and nine other people in a helicopter crash last January.
“Our little one has finally arrived!! The delivery went really well and we couldn’t be happier!! Elisabet Gianna Gasol ?, a very meaningful name for our super beautiful daughter!!,” Gasol wrote on Instagram.
Elisabet Gianna’s godmother will be Vanessa Bryant, Kobe’s widow. “My goddaughter is here!!!!,” she wrote on Instagram and Gasol commented: “We love you sis! You’re going to be the best Godmother to our Ellie Gianna.” In August, Gasol and his wife Catherine vacationed with Bryant’s family in San Francisco.
Gasol and Bryant were close friends since they were teammates on the Los Angeles Lakers from 2008 to 2014. Together, they won the back-to-back NBA championship titles of 2009 and 2010.
