The Boston Celtics confirmed that Gordon Hayward will not play in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals best-of-seven series against the Miami Heat due to his right ankle sprain. Also, Javonte Green was tabbed as doubtful.
Hayward, 30, is out for the past four weeks but is approaching his approach date. He went through a small group workout after practice Monday and looked good, according to head coach Brad Stevens. It’s likely he will be back at some point in the series planned to commence Tuesday in the Orlando bubble.
Green, 27, underwent minor right knee surgery in late August and is close to a return as well.
The Celtics nearing a healthy roster are four wins away from their first NBA finals appearance since 2010.
