With the game on the line and Jayson Tatum trying to dunk for the tie, Bam Adebayo made the biggest play of his career so far on the way to the 117-114 overtime win of the Miami Heat against the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
Adebayo blocked Tatum, Jimmy Butler with a three-point play gave to Miami the lead in the previous possession and Slovenian Goran Dragic was the driving force for the Heat with 29 points, seven rebounds, and four assists.
Still, it was Bam who stole the show. “When you have great competition like this, you just have to make plays that you can’t even really explain,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. “And that was Bam tonight.”
Jae Crowder added 22, while Butler had 20 and Adebayo had 18. Miami’s rookie Tyler Herro was one assist shy of a triple-double, finishing with 12 points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists.
Tatum scored 30 points for the Celtics, Marcus Smart had 26 points, Kemba Walker had 19 and Jaylen Brown added 17. However, the Celtics despite having an 85-71 lead at the start of the fourth quarter couldn’t hold on for the win.
