Doc Rivers made headlines when it was announced that he was leaving the Clippers, however, just after three days, he is back in the NBA, coaching one of the most talented teams of the league.
As Adrian Wojnarowski reported, “after a rapid courtship and negotiation, Doc Rivers has reached agreement on a deal to become the next coach of the Philadelphia 76ers”.
Despite the Clippers’ failure to deliver in the “bubble”, Rivers remains one of the most respected coaches in the NBA and he returns to the East, where in the past, as the coach of the Boston Celtics, has won the championship title in 2009.
The multi-year deal between Rivers and the Sixers is expected to be officialized soon. Former Rockets coach Mike D’Antoni was considered until recently the main candidate for the job. Rivers would have to build a winning team around the core of All-Stars Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons.
