The NFL Regular Season Round 5 opener Thursday night featured a late-game misjudgment bringing up memories from Game 1 of the 2018 NBA Finals. Tom Brady, a six-time Super Bowl champion, mimicking J.R. Smith, prompted numerous reactions on social media.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers needed a score to beat the Chicago Bears. Brady attempted to add on his trademark comeback drives but ultimately got confused mistaking the actual fourth down for a third down.

Brady, 43, in his first season following the long and successful run with the New England Patriots, saw his pass broken down before realizing his huge mistake. He remained in shock for several seconds refusing to budge. He thought he still had fourth down but the Bears took over possession winning the game over the opposing side’s quarterback mental breakdown.

Back to 31 May 2018. The infamous play with Smith grabbing the offensive rebound for the Cleveland Cavaliers and then dribbling the ball towards half-court rather than shooting in the dying seconds of Game 1 against the Golden State Warriors. His mistake led the match into overtime, the Warriors went up 1-0 and ultimately swept the series, 4-0.

Magic Johnson turned in among the reactions on Twitter. “I can’t believe 6X Super Bowl Champion Tom Brady lost track of downs in their 20-19 loss to the Bears,” he wrote steering clear of the apparent connection to current Los Angeles Lakers player, Smith.
